Abstract

Data regarding the physico-chemical attributes of packaging materials are prerequisites for selecting proper packaging materials to design a package profile for any foodstuff to obtain the desired shelf-life in a packaged condition during its storage and distribution. A variety of indigenously manufactured flexible plastic films generally used in food packaging such as low and high density polyethylenes, PVC, polystyrene, different types of cellulose based materials such as greaseproof paper,glassine, kraft, regenerated cellulose films and aluminium foil laminates obtained from manufacturing and converting industries were evaluated for their physicochemicalproperties such os water vapour transmission rate (WVTR), tensile and bursting strengths, tearing resistance, and elongation.
