Abstract

This Dissertation / Report is the outcome of investigation carried out by the creator(s) / author(s) at the department/division of Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), Mysore mentioned below in this page.

Item Type: Student Project Report
Additional Information: Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) are the polymers of hydroxyalkanoate that accumulate as a carbon/energy storage material in various micro-organisms and deposited in the form of inclusion bodies in the cytoplasm. The native isolates B.cereus CFR04 seem to be potent PHA producer with accumulation ability, utilisation of sugars and high amylase activity. Thus, it can be exploited as a tool for genetic manipulation and chosen as a model organism for PHA production. Recovery of PHA should be considered because it significantly affects the overall production processes and it seems to be very economical. A lot of problems arise in the downstream processes of PHA, which should be solved by finding out an alternative method for easy recovery of PHA. The present study was undertaken with a major objective of: 1) Electroporation of Native strain of Bacillus cereus. 2) Characterization of BC lgt mutant for its antibiotic sensitivity and PHA production aspect.
