Abstract

A survey was conducted in Andhra Pradesh (India) to find out the extent of aflatoxin contamination in commercial groundnut oil. Samples were collected from 3 climatic regions of the state and from the crops grown in 2 seasons. Of the 1209 oil samples analysed, 44.2% contained toxin, and of these 25.7% contained greater than 100 parts/billion toxin. Oil extracted from the kharif (rainy) season crop contained higher toxin concn. compared to rabi (winter) season; the dry area crop contained lower concn. of toxin.
