Abstract

Turmeric at concn. of 0.1-1.0 g was tested on growth and acid production of (i) lactobacilli, (ii) streptococci and (iii) Escherichia coli by growing in nutrient broth for 8, 24 and 48 h. Growth and acid production were suppressed in (i) but slightly stimulated in (ii) and (iii) by turmeric. The min. concn. to effect this change was 0.5%.
