Abstract
Effects of pre- and post-harvest applications of benlate on the control of field fungal infections like sooty blotch (Gloeodes pomigena) and flyspeck (Microthyriella rubi) and storage fungal spot disease (Phoma sp.) of Golden Delicious apples are investigated. 3 pre-harvest sprays with benlate at 100, 500 and 1000 mg/l concn. to Golden Delicious trees at 5, 3 and 1 wk prior to harvest effectively controlled the field fungal infections at all concn. Fruit sprayed with high concn. of benlate developed less fungal disease during storage. Apples were given 3 post harvest treatments: (i) dipped in aqueous solution 100 mg/l benlate; (ii) dipped in Waxol-0-12 emulsion containing 1000 mg/l benlate; and (iii) apples which had received benlate at 100 mg/l prior to harvest were given treatment (ii). Of the 3 post harvest treatments (iii) showed better control of fungal disease during storage.
