Abstract
Effects of pre-harvest treatment with aqueous solutions of 0.2% Captan, 100 ppm NAA, and 250 ppm each of Benlate and Tecto, 0.2% Captan • 100 ppm NAA in water or Waxol, and post-harvest treatments by fumigation with SO2 in the form of in-package fumigant and fumes were studied during storage of Arab-e-Shahi grapes in mid- and late season harvests. Disorders, e.g. decay and berry drop, were greater in late than mid-season harvests. The various treatments did not show any appreciable effect on physiological wt. loss. In-package fumigant (IPF) proved best for reducing decay and berry drop, retaining the freshness of bunches and fallen berries, and it extended the storage life of grapes to 7 days even in late season harvest (3 days for untreated grapes) and proved effective in transport trials. Fumigation with SO2 gave the next best results, giving a storage life of 7 days but only for the mid-season harvest.
