Abstract

Investigations were carried out into the partition of aflatoxin between the oil and cake obtained from groundnut kernels in an oil mill and in a Carver laboratory hydraulic press. Representative samples of kernel and cake were collected from batches of kernels and analysed for aflatoxin content. Oil samples corresponding to a particular batch were collected. During oil separation in an expeller the bulk of the toxin present in the kernel will be in the cake. During oil separation by either process about 85-90% of aflatoxin present in groundnut kernels goes with the cake and 10-15% with the oil.
