Abstract

Expt. were carried out on 2 varieties of paddy rice (hard S701 and soft Taichung Native) to determine the optimum moisture content at which it should be harvested in order to minimize milling breakage. Results indicate that the deleterious effect of drying the harvested crop on the field prior to threshing is greater than that of delaying the harvest for the same period, particulary with the soft variety. For both varieties, sun-drying gave rise to more breakage than shade-drying.
