Abstract

25 children suffering from kwashiorkor were fed coconut infant food or skim milk powder. Each child in both groups received 5 g protein/kg body wt./day. The daily calorie intake was maintained at 150 kcal/kg body wt. The infant food from coconut was readily digested by the children and compared favourably with skim milk powder in initiating a cure of kwashiorkor.
