Abstract

Green, healthy banana bunches were cut into hands and divided into 2 lots. 1 lot was dipped in 1% aqueous solution of Brassicol-75 and dried in air, the cut surfaces then being treated with antifungal paste. 2 kinds of paste were used, 1 imported and 1 developed at the Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), Mysore. The 2nd lot were not dipped in Brassicol-75 but received anti-fungal treatment. All samples were stored at 55plus/minus1 degree F, RH 85%, for 18 days. It was found that application of CFTRI antifungal paste prevented rot (with or without application of Brassicol-75), but that the imported paste did not prevent rot, even with Brassicol-75 tratment.
