Abstract

Arabica and robusta cherry coffee were stored for 1 yr in dry (Salem) and monsoon (Mangalore) areas. Samples were analysed every 2 wk for moisture, colour, density and bushel wt. Initial moisture was approximate equal to10.8%. Max. moisture levels obtained after 1 yr in Salem were 9%, in Mangalore 16.0% for arabica and 14.2% for robusta. Samples stored in Mangalore showed colour changes at moisture levels greater than 10.5%. In Salem no change in colour and swelling but decrease in bushel wt. and % moisture took place. Beans with greater than 10% moisture are not suitable for long term storage in a warm humid atm.
