Abstract

Experimental evidence examining the beneficial effects of fenugreek seeds for health is reviewed. Aspects considered include: characteristics of fenugreek and fenugreek products (uses of fenugreek, the plant, composition of fenugreek greens and seeds, fenugreek oils, fenugreek fibre, fenugreek saponins and alkaloids, safety); antidiabetic activity (animal studies, human trials); hypocholesterolaemic activity (animal studies, human trials); antioxidative activity; influence on digestion; and other beneficial health effects.
