Abstract

Oilseeds, the source of oils for edible and multiple industrial uses, hold an important position in the economy of developed as well as developing countries. Storage and insect pest control of oilseeds are reviewed with particular reference to their uses in India. Aspects considered include: influences of certain factors on storage (moisture content, oil content, storage temp.); different storage methods; common insect pests of stored oilseeds and meals/cakes; insect pest control in oilseeds (fumigation, insecticides, heat-disinfection); and the presence of pesticide residues in oilseeds following pest control treatment.
