Abstract

Insect infestation of sorghum and millet during storage under conditions commonly employed in developing countries is reviewed, together with methods for its control. Aspects considered include: the economic importance of sorghum and millet production in India and Africa; typical storage practices in developing countries; the insect pests most frequently found in stored sorghum and millet (beetles, moths, psocids); factors influencing susceptibility to insect pests; effects of insect pests on grain quality; and pest control methods and regulations controlling their use (exposure to sun, fumigation, insecticides).
