Abstract

Analysis of pesticide residues in drinking water is discussed. Aspects considered include: the definition of a pesticide; structure and safety of organochlorine, organophosphate, carbamate, pyrethroid and other pesticides; ways in which pesticides enter water; procedures for the extraction of pesticide residues from drinking water; detection of residues in the extracts (using a GC-electon capture detector, GC-mass spectrometry, a GC-flame photometric detector or HPLC-fluorescence detection); and immunoassay of pesticide residues.
