Abstract

The binding equilibrium between beta-cyclodextrin and phenolphthalein was used to develop a [spectroscopic] method for estimation of beta-cyclodextrin in solution. From logarithmic plots of amounts of beta-cyclodextrin against absorbance at 554 nm, a relation log X = (log A - logY)/B was found, which gave an estimate of beta-cyclodextrin in the concn. range 0.0045 mg/ml (3.96muM) to 4.7 mg/ml (4.14mM), where X = intercept and B = slope. This method was found to be highly reproducible and reliable.
