Abstract

Effects of cabbage components on corrosion in tinplate containers containing corrosive fruit and vegetable products were studied. Cabbage pulp and fibre gave complete protection to cans packed with the highly corrosive vegetable, ivy gourd. Inhibitory effects of cabbage powder on tin corrosion by banana puree, pineapple juice, and mango juice and efficiency of phospholipids in inhibiting corrosion were also studied. Cabbage powder and phospholipids reduced corrosion to varying degrees; their use as corrosion inhibitors in the canning industry is suggested.
