Abstract
(Z)-2-Nonenyl propionate was isolated from virgin females of the stored products pest Tribolium castaneum, characterized and bioassayed for sex pheromone activity. Activity was highest at a dose of 8 ng, and there was no aggregation action on females. Saturation of the double bond deactivated the molecule, while removal of the ester linkage did not completely suppress sex pheromone activity, the alcohol showing 70% activity at a dose of 20 ng.
