Abstract

Methyl iodide, which has been shown to be toxic to insects [cf. RAE/A 26, p. 575; 40, p. 74], was found to show considerable promise as a fumigant against adults of Oryzaephilus surinamensis (L.), Rhyzopertha dominica (F.), Sitophilus oryzae (L.), Stegobium paniceum (L.) and Tribolium castaneum (Hbst.), though it was less toxic than methyl bromide. An advantage is that it is a liquid and therefore easy to handle, but costs may make large-scale fumigations expensive.
