Abstract
PESTAB. Studies were carried out to identify and quantitate the components present in the 3 by-products (X-factor, by-product I and by-product II) obtained in the lindane isolation process from technical BHC. It is suggested that these by-products can have safe and economic applications in pest control. The techniques used for identification were thin layer chromatography and gas-liquid chromatography with electron capture detection. The principal by-products showed 7 distinct spots on TLC. The remaining components appeared as a single unresolved diffused spot. The new isomer (X3) separated clearly in 5% QF1 column between alpha and gamma isomers. The toxicity of the various isomers is discussed.
