Abstract

Albino rats were fed norbormide after they had been subjected to adrenalectomy. This treatment caused the blood glucose levels to be increased by 36%. Similar treatment to intact rats caused a 100% increase in blood glucose levels. Rodenticide fed rats also experienced an elevation in serum calcium. The liver mitochondria and intestines demonstrated a lower activity of monoamine oxidase while acetylcholinesterase was increased in the intestine, cerebellum and spinal cord. Additional enzyme responses to norbormide are discussed.
