Abstract

This Dissertation / Report is the outcome of investigation carried out by the creator(s) / author(s) at the department/division of Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), Mysore mentioned below in this page.

Item Type: Student Project Report
Additional Information: Production of microbial chitinolytic enzymes has received much attention as one step in a bioconversion process to treat shellfish waste chitin and its application in the production of N-acetyl-D-glucosamine for use in food and pharmaceutical. Production of microbial chitinases is one of the primary economic in the utilization of shrimp processing solid waste. In recent years a considerable interest has been made in using shrimp processing waste for chitinase production by solid state fermentation. In India shrimp processing produce an average of 1.5 MT of chitin as solid waste and disposal of this solid waste create severe economical and environmental problems. In the present study we made an attempt to produce chitinases (chitinase and β-N-acetyl-D-hexosaminidase (NAH)) by solid state fermentation (SSF) using seafood processing shrimp shell chitin waste as a substrate from 3 different phytopathogenic fungi. It was observed that a maximum of 15 U/gIDS chitinase production by C. lindimuthianum at 192 h of incubation in arbitrarily selected conditions. Maximum NAH yield of 1.0 U/gIDS was recorded with F.oxysporium at 192 h of incubation. Results of the present study indicate scope for the utilization of seafood processing shrimp shell chitin waste as a novel substrate for chitinases production by solid state fermentation.
