This Dissertation / Report is the outcome of investigation carried out by the creator(s) / author(s) at the department/division of Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), Mysore mentioned below in this page.

Item Type: Student Project Report
Additional Information: The project includes the study of Mathematical Models for Packaging of Spheroidal Fruits followed by the development of a Program for Efficient Packaging of Spheroidal Fruits which calculates all possible combinations of number of rows perpendicular to each wall of the Container; thus finding out the Container Dimensions, Number of Contact Points, and the Packing Density. The program is extended to the Master Container point of view to obtain container sizes with maximum possible volume and surface utilization efficiencies which is done after the study of the five basic stacking patterns and their combinations. The final step involves the optimization, on the basis of the priority of a user, of the container sizes as obtained by the two parts. This means that the user has the option to define the fruit size, number of fruits to be included within a shipping container, packing fraction, minimal and maximal desired volumes of the shipping containers, minimal and maximal desired surface and volume utilization efficiencies, step increments (depending on the tolerance for manufacturing) and can obtain several outputs to choose from with the optimization done depending on the property which is more important to the individual.
Uncontrolled Keywords: Mathematical models – spheroidal fruits – optimal packaging – program - container dimension – stacking pattern – efficient - maximum surface utilization efficiency – maximum volume utilization efficiency.
