Additional Information: | The present study reports the interaction of garcinol, the bioactive compound isolated from Garcinia indica, with Human Serum Albumin. Studies such as absorbance, fluorescence and circular dichroism exhibited enough evidence of binding of garcinol (100% purified crystals) to HSA. The phenomenon of fluorescence quenching was observed with increased garcinol concentration accompanied with an increase in absorption spectral bands. The binding constant was calculated from a linearized Stern-Volmer plot (A plot of quantum yield as a function of ligand concentration and was found to be equal to 5.445 x 106 M-1. The type of binding was one is to one which indicates strong binding. The CD spectra indicated a gross change in α- helical content (10%), upon binding of garcinol to HSA. |
