Additional Information: |
Sesamin and Sesamolin are unique compounds present in sesame seed. These phenolic compounds are lignan fibres and can be called as lignanphenols and also known as resinols. Sesamolin splits on hydrolysis and gives Sesamol. Sesamol has higher antioxidant activity than Sesamin and Sesamolin as it is evident whence stereochemically studied using X-ray analysis. Sesamolin on conversion by inter- molecular group transfer also produces sesaminol and Sesamolinol. Sesamol, sesaminol, sesamolinol, sesamin and sesamolin are major antioxidants in sesame oil. according to the above stated studies on sesame seed and oil, it can be concluded that both the varieties i.e. Black sesame seed oil and White sesame seed oil whence extracted by solvent extraction method using methanol as solvent have greatest activity as well as proportions of sesamol , other derivatives and major lignanphenols and have greater nutraceutical properties than any other sesame oil obtained by other methods of extraction or expelling.
|
