Abstract
During the past few years there has been greater demand
for well controlled and automated laboratory fermentors in
research and scale-up studies on fermentation processes
in our country. The development of such a syste~ w~tb
indigenous components was undertaken at the Central Food
Technological Research Institute to avoid the import of
its technology at the cost of considerable. foreign exchange.
A proto type laboratory ermentor of 10 and 12 litres
capacity having temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, antifoam,
continuous culture and magnetically coupled agitation
control systems has been successfully developed. The system
has facilIties for computer data logging and the control
parameters are digitalised.
