Abstract

Long-term dysregulated balance between energy intake and expenditure leading to storage of excess fat in adipose tissues is the major risk factor for obesity. The condition also characterized by uncontrolled adipogenesis and recently Dipeptidyl peptidase 4 (DPP4) is identified as one of the novel adipokine highly up regulated in obesity and adipogenesis. DPP4 exerts its effects through its various substrates including Glucagon like peptide 1(GLP1) through suppression of appetite by promoting pancreatic secretion, delaying gastric emptying, inducing satiety and modulating central nervous system signalling. Bovine milk not only consists of all the essential nutrients required for growth and development, but also provides a broad range of bioactives that are beneficial for several biological activities. In our research, we isolated and characterised bovine milk GAGs (bmGAGs) and bovine whey hydrolysates (WH) and investigated their inhibitory activity on adipogenesis via DPP4 inhibition.
