Abstract
X-factor is one of the many by-products in the lindane process which finds a wide
application in pest control operations. During the extraction stage of the process,
chloride ions from BHC react with the solvent mixture liberating hydrochloric acid.
This acidic nature is reduced by washing X-factor in distilled water without altering its
composition.
