Abstract
A process has been developed for the manufacture of alkali bromides and methyl
bromide with an annual output of 18 tonnes of sodium bromide or 20 tonnes of
potassium bromide or 15 tonnes ofmethyl bromide. The integrated process consists of
reducing bromine in presence of sodium or potassium hydroxide to obtain a strone
solution of sodium or potassium bromide; these bromides are crystallised out or
reacted with sulphuric acid and methyl alcohol to form methyl bromide. The gaseous
methyl bromide is distilled out, compressed and cooled to a liquid form fat use as an
insecticide for the control of stored product pests.
