Abstract
The importance of pectic and other unavailable carbohydrates in the physiological
effects of dietary fibre is well documented I_ Precise chemical, structural, and
biochemical knowledge of the various dietary-fibre components is yet far from understood_
A study was accordingly initiated to investigate in chemicai and structural
terms the nature of some of the components of dietary fibre from legume pulses.
Structural features of two pectic fractions from field-bean (Dolichos lablab) hulls are
reported in this communication.
