Abstract
Dithiocarbamates find a variety of applications
such as fungicides, phytohormones,
accelerators in the rubber industry and
collectors in the flotation of minerals. The
dithiocarbamates are the derivatives of
dithiocarbamic acid, 1-12N—C < L, which is
highly unstable. The metallic salts and the
substituted derivatives of the free acid are
quite stable and can be obtained in crystalline
form. These are sparingly soluble in
water. Zinc dimethyl dithiocarbamate is
widely used as a fungicide and is sold under
the trade names as Ziram, Zerberk, Zinkcarbamate,
etc. The carboxymethyl derivatives
of the dithiocarbamic acid have been
found to exhibit plant growth-regulating
activity.'
Several methods `-9 have been described
in literature for the determination of dithiocarbamates.
