Abstract
Developments in food packaging and associated training facilities in India since 1956 are reviewed. Aspects highlighted include basic studies on packaging of basic foods and their products, transport packages for fresh and perishable foods including fruits, vegetables and fish; tin plate containers for packing various foods; testing facilities for food packages; agricultural wastes as raw materials for packaging; teaching and training facilities; and trends in food packaging which include light weight flexible packaging materials and energy economy in producing flexible packages.
