Abstract
The effect of silicophosphate-based compounds on the germination of wheat seeds and damage caused by the dermestid Trogoderma granarium was studied in the laboratory. Tricopper silicophosphate reduced infestation by T. granarium at concentrations of 0.3-1.5%. The seeds were also significantly protected by 1.0 and 1.5% tricalcium silicophosphate and 1.5% trizinc silicophosphate. A significantly high infestation was recorded in seeds treated with 0.3 and 0.5% tricalcium silicophosphate and its hydrogen form, and trizinc silicophosphate. The viability of seeds was not impaired by any of the treatments even after 6 months storage. Germination was signficantly reduced 25 days after the introduction of T. granarium in treatments with 0.3-1.0% tricalcium silicophosphate and 1.0% tricopper silicophosphate. There was no reduction in germination of seeds treated with 1.5% tricopper silicophosphate, even after 35 days. The presence of copper, zinc and phosphorus was beneficial for seedling establishment.
