Additional Information: | Germ was obtained by dry milling and wet milling industries and was analysed before extraction of oil. Germ from dry mill was found to contain less oil (33%) than the wet milled germ (48%). However, germ from dry mill was found to contain more protein and ash content than germ from wet mill. Various pretreatment were given to the germ (dry mill) before extracting oil by hydraulic press. Steam treatment with pressure was found to be the most suitable method among Oven treatment, Microwave treatment, Roasting and Steam treatment. The optimum pressure was found to be 1.4 kg/cm2 as highest yield was obtained (12.7%). Nearly half the oil content from the germ (dry mill) was removed by this method. |
