Additional Information: | Fresh water samples were collected from Trichy and Coimbatore for screening of lipid content and an isolate Cbe4a was successfully grown in BBM liquid medium . The isolate was identified as Chlorococcum. The isolate was studied for it’s growth profile, biomass and lipid productivity in normal and stress conditions. Intracellular lipid droplets are identified by Nile red staining , Cbe4a isolate showed golden yellow colour . The isolate Cbe 4a shows lipid content about 22 to 25% in stress condition, while at normal growth conditions lipid content was about 40% w/w after 21st day of grown. The Fatty acid profile of the isolates was analyzed using Gas chromatography technique. The profile was compared to the C8-C24 Fatty acids mixture (Supelco). Palmitic acid (16:0) and Oleic acid (18:1) were the major fatty acid in the isolate. The results show the potential of Cbe4a strain for lipid production which can be cultivated further in open pond systems that is in outdoor by giving CO2 supplementation to check for the high productivity and explored further for biodiesel production. |
