Abstract

Soyasaponins have been shown to restrict fat absorption in the gut and reduce circulating levels of cholesterol and triacylglycerol. Most of the research in this regard have been performed using whole soyasaponins extract or soyasaponins B. In this study we aim to evaluate the effect of soyasaponins A and B for their ability to reduce fat depositions and plasma lipids in high fat fed C57BL/6J mice. The soyasaponins have been assayed using a previously standardized eight day treatment regimen. These experiments evaluate the immediate effects of the nutraceuticals on obesity-linked parameters. The results suggest soyasaponins A and B are equipotent and bring about similar changes in all the parameters studied.
