Abstract

The effect of Hexachlorocyclohexane (HCH) an organochlorine insecticide and Agrocure (Pseudomonas Iralucida) on germination of groundnut seeds was tesled in presence of HCH In soil. Groundnut seeds were sensitive to HCH and showed marked reduction in germination percentage and seedling vigor index. thereby indicated phytotoxicity. A number of abnormalities were detected In seedlings at different concentrations of the chemical. Simultaneous Inoculation 01 HCH treated soil with a HCH degrading organism Pseudomonas ptm MTCC 3671 strain protected the groundnut seedlings. The inoculated organisms grew and multiplied well utilizing HCH In soli and accelerated HCH degradation.
