Abstract
Rice, jowar (Sorghum) and wheat flour are staple foods in Karnataka State, India; random samples were collected in and around Mysore. Of rice samples 20% and of wheat flour samples 30% had BHC and DDT residues above the national tolerance limit. The content of residues was not high enough to indicate direct mixing of insecticides with grain to preserve it. No jowar sample had pesticide residues over the tolerance limit, owing to the storage of jowar in pits by the farmers.
