Additional Information: | Effect of retinol deficiency on tissue biochemical parameters with special reference to lipid profile in rat was investigated.Rats were fed with retinol deficient diet for 8 weeks to induce VAD. VAD was confirmed by plasma level of retinol (<0.7 mmol/L) and clinical symptoms of VAD. During the experimental period, food intake and gain in body weight were monitored. Results showed that rats became weak, food intake and growth rate was reduced significantly comparing to that of control animals. After induction of VAD, rats were fed with mixed micelles contains either with beta-carotene or retinol or fucoxanthin in order to find out effect of VAD on the efficacy of those molecules to correct the biochemical changes in tissue. Results demonstrate that not only provitamin-A carotene or vitamin-A helps in correcting the VAD induced biochemical changes in the liver tissue but also non provitamin-A carotenoids. |
