Abstract

The effects of fertilization and pruning practice on the occurrence of white belly (w.b.) and translucent grains and on technological properties were studied in 2 rice var. Tabulated data showed that w.b. grains were wider and heavier than translucent ones, with lower absolute density and equilibrium moisture content, and much higher susceptibility to cracking and milling breakage (46% milling breakage, vs. 18.5 in var. 1, 52 vs. 14.4% in var. 2; 75% suncracked kernels vs. 52, and 41 vs. 24% resp.). In paddy samples, milling breakage increased with the % of w.b. grains.
