Abstract

Live birds were transported 150 km in crates made of bamboo, wood or wire netting prior to slaughter. Dressing % fell from 68.8 to 63.07% due to transport. The major quality defect observed was bruising; incidence of bruising was lowest in birds transported in solid bottomed wooden crates.
