Abstract
The production of fish protein concentrate from surplus and cheap varieties of fish (such as non-penaeid prawns, silver bellies, white sardines and Dhoma) and its use in the supplementation of diets based on cereals and other such products, is discussed. Trials show that it can successfully be incorporated in a number of daily preparations, such as bread, biscuits, chapaties, dhals etc.; however intensive promotion and consumer education will be necessary for it to gain acceptance.
