Abstract

A simple method for rapid on-line measurement of ethanol, produced in a continuous bioreactor, in a steady state, is described. Soap film meter measures the rate of CO2 evolved. This value is equated to the equimolar production of ethanol. A mean 3.3% error was observed, as compared to the gas chromatography method.
