Abstract

A review of the microbial degradation of pesticides is presented, including pesticides as a nutrient source, co-metabolism, conjugate formation, microbial accumulation of pesticides, the effect of various substituents on the biodegradability of pesticides, dehalogenation, oxidative reactions, cleavage of ether bonds, dealkylation, reduction, hydrolysis and genetic manipulation for enhanced biodegradation.
