Abstract

The parasitism of Pratylenchus coffeae, Meloidogyne incognita and Rotylenchulus reniformis was tested in glasshouse experiments on 12 tropical fruit and plantation crops. None of the 3 nematodes multiplied on Citrus jambhiri or C. reticulata. Only Meloidogyne incognita multiplied on C. aurantifolia and Myristica fragrans and only Pratylenchus coffeae on Areca catechu. P. coffeae failed to multiply on Camellia sinensis and Rotylenchulus reniformis failed to multiply on Cinnamomum zeylanicum. All 3 nematodes multiplied on Ananas sativus, Elettaria cardamomum, Musa sp. Piper nigrum and Theobroma cacao. A table also gives the genera of plant-parasitic nematodes found on 9 commercial crops in a survey of coffee-growing districts.
