Abstract

This Dissertation / Report is the outcome of investigation carried out by the creator(s) / author(s) at the department/division of Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), Mysore mentioned below in this page.

Item Type: Student Project Report
Additional Information: One of the high growth areas in fermentation technology is the search for new bioactive molecules from microbial sources. Beside antibiotics, some of the bioactive molecules include mammalian enzyme inhibitors, mycotoxins, herbicides, insecticide etc.one such group of bioactive metabolites produced by fermentation is low molecular weight enzyme inhibitors. Alpha glucosidase is a typical exo-type alpha glucosidic linkage hydrolase releasing D-glucose from the non-reducing end side of the substrate and in recent present they were targeted in diabetic drug therapy. The present study is aimed to isolate and partially purify an alpha glucosidase inhibitor from submerged state fermentation by soil fungi (Penicillium species). The results suggest that the inhibitor has an IC 50 value of 28μg/ ml. Further studies are required to determine the structural characteristics and mode of inhibition of the inhibitor.
