Additional Information: | Biological control of insects using entomopathogenic fungi mainly depends on growth and sporulation of the entomopathogen to be used under the test condition. To show more effective on test insects, the fungus should be easily grown on particular fungal media, which is cheaper, economical and easier to grow. This is because, the overall efficacy depends on the test fungi which grow, proliferate and sporulate luxuriantly as the infection process (control process) mainly depends on fungal conidia which come and contact with insect cuticle and further germination of conidia, multiplication in the insect cuticle and ultimately resulting to death of an insect. Therefore, enough number of conidia is required to act upon the insect. In this direction the present work on growth and sporulation of entomopathogenic fungi B. bassiana was studied both on liquid and agar (solid) media. |
