Abstract

This Dissertation / Report is the outcome of investigation carried out by the creator(s) / author(s) at the department/division of Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), Mysore mentioned below in this page.

Item Type: Student Project Report
Additional Information: The literature review reveals that there is a good demand of synthesis of naturally occurring glycosides by chemical methods. Koenigs-Knorr method is proven to be best method for the synthesis of various glycosides. In this type of synthesis the glycosyl donar is usually in the form halides and it is activated by various reagents to attach with aglycon part. Synthesizing glycosyl halides is also been very significant in nature as there is demand for better method to proceed with Koenigs-Knorr reaction. The 2,3,4,6-tetra-O-acetyl-α-D-glucopranosyl bromide has been used in the synthesis of various glycosides. In literature the 2,3,4,6-tetra-O-acetyl-α-D-glucopranosyl bromide has been synthesized using α-D-glucose, phosphorus and bromine. The procedure followed are cumbersome and leads to low yield of the product. The product prepared this way needs to be utilized as quickly as possible or otherwise it decomposes to un-identified mixture of compounds. An initial trail in the present study was conducted to prepare 2,3,4,6-tetra-O-acetyl-α-D-glucopranosyl bromide using by a new procedure.
