Abstract
Maternal nutrition is considered as a critical factor in current scenario, since it affects
both the mother as well as the developing fetus and thus in- take of a balanced diet is
very important. However, the sedentary lifestyle and the Western influence have led to
the higher calorie (especially from fats) intake which in turn has increased the risk of
fetus in developing a range of metabolic disorders during childhood as well as its
adulthood. Hence, in this study dyslipidemia (hyperlipidemia) was induced in rats by
feeding them with a high fat diet which was confirmed by the bio-markers such as
serum cholesterol, triglycerides and free fatty acids followed by the study of the
beneficial effects of omega-3 fatty acids.
