Abstract
An existingverticalretortwas modified to
process all the three containers with steam,
water and steam/air mixture. The modified
vertical retort was used to process glass jars
and retortable pouches. The experiments conducted
in the processing of glass jars and
retortable pouches indicated good results
with no damage to the containers during
processing. The specifications of the components
used and the pipe connections for the
modification have been discussed. A table of
the minimum pipe sizes based on the retort
dimensions is suggested. The method to determine
the compressor capacity is provided.
The operation of the retort for processing
glass jars and retortable pouches is included.
